Dr. Pedersen received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He taught Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and General Biology at Moraine Valley Community College in Illinois and two community colleges in Seattle for 7 years. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986 and received membership in Beta Sigma Kappa as an Honor Student in 1985. Dr. Pedersen taught one day a week as a Clinical Instructor for five years at the UC Berkeley Optometry Clinic. He purchased his practice in 1987 from Dr. Gilbert S. Tom and incorporated Dr. John Austin’s practice in 1998.In surveys by the Argus Newspaper, Dr. Pedersen was voted “Best Optometrist” in the Fremont, Newark, and Union City area four years in a row. In the past years he has also served on the Board of the Alameda-Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society and the Niles Rotary Board.
In the past he was very active in playing softball, snow skiing, and water sports, but lately his main leisure activities have been international travel and gardening!
Dr. Thomas Norman is a graduate of University Of California, Berkeley where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biophysics. He also earned his Doctor of Optometry from U.C. Berkeley. He worked as a teaching assistant in ophthalmic optics at the School Of Optometry while attending.
Tom is a native San Franciscan who has practiced optometry for 26 years in the Bay area. His interests include piano, metal sculpture and rollercoasters. He has a long past history with water skiing and a short history with boxing and skydiving. Tom is a tool enthusiast who enjoys anything from car repair and welding to building a fence.
Dr. Sara Chiu is a therapeutic certified optometrist licensed by the California Board of Optometry. She completed her undergraduate degree in Cell Biology & Genetics from the University of British Columbia, and earned her Doctor of Optometry from the University of California, Berkeley. During her advanced clinical education at the Fresno and Portland Veteran’s Administration hospitals, she gained extensive training in primary care optometry including ocular pathology, specialty contact lens fitting, and treatment of eye infections and allergies. Dr. Chiu is also the recipient of the Julius Neumeuller Award in Optics 2006 awarded by the American Optometric Association for her research work in myopia.
Although Dr. Chiu was born and raised in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, she is now settled in the Bay Area where she enjoys trying different cuisines, sea kayaking, running, skiing, traveling, & enjoying a good novel at a café on a sunny day.
